On a whim, I decided to see what was on the SD card for my drone this morning after making breakfast — lo and behold, I have some halfway-decent amateur footage of a handful of outdoor adventures!
Here’s the first one that I want to share — and it’s also the best one out of the gate! This is certainly inspiring to get back out there and explore some more…and we have some great photos from an adventure just yesterday as well that I’ll be sure to post as soon as I can!
Last Friday, we had an opportunity to head to Communion Restaurant & Bar here in Seattle — if you’ve never heard of it, it’s gotten rave reviews here in the city, including top billing by Condé Nast.
Our cousin Dominic joined us on a work layover, and we ordered damn near everything on the menu! When I tell y’all there were barely any leftovers when we were done, I mean it! Always a favorite — and it’s easily become Monika’s and my favorite restaurant.
The outdoor photos are actually from our previous outing with Dom when he had another layover a few weeks before, too — we did a sunset ferry cruise over to Bainbridge Island and back, trying to make sure that Dominic gets all of the great tourism experiences on short layovers with the airline.
Check out the wings in particular in the photos…best wings I’ve ever had!
Last weekend, we took a trip out east to spend the weekend with Reid, who is doing absolutely fantastic in school! ☺️
Over the weekend, Mr. Reid played a lot of Zelda, and we also drove to his favorite marine wildlife center, or miniature aquarium, in Lynchburg to feed the “crazy fish” at the Koi pond and check out other things like snakes, lizards, a savannah cat, and rays!
The quote above is a question that Reid asks each time we get in the car when we’re visiting and staying at the SpringHill Suites because he LOVES that hotel! Whether it’s breakfast in the morning and getting “his coffee” (a coffee cup with water) or “taking a long shower because I’ve had a long day” he thinks the hotel is the best thing ever…and I have to agree, it’s a really great location and very affordable for our trips out east! The newer SpringHill Suites also feature fixtures and furniture from West Elm’s hotel collection, so they’re well-appointed and well-designed if you’re looking for a place that doesn’t feel dated…at least not yet!
Overall, it was a great time — special shout out to Monika for picking up first class seats on the way back, though…that 6 hour flight with headwinds back to Seattle would have been exceedingly worse had she not bumped us up!
If you’re receiving this email1 from me, by now you may have seen that I’m no longer on Facebook. For a variety of reasons, I felt that I needed to detach from the social media cycle, but I still recognize the ease & power of social connection via the internet with friends and loved ones like yourselves all around the country and the world.
I aspire to sit down to write about things I’ve been doing or experiencing with my perfectly-imperfect family, share pictures, and maintain an ad-free and drama-free digital space to connect and share — and never written with AI. My website and blog is not necessarily fully operational, but my first true post about last weekend’s Roanoke trip to see Reid is up – with some cool pictures, too!
I may not get the ease of reach with posts that I got on Facebook, but that’s okay — the folks who took the time to read and send me your information are the “real ones,” to quote an ancient African-American proverb. 😁
tl;dr — I’m glad you’re here, and can’t wait to stay connected a little old school style!
With Love,
Collin
